Fifty Shades of Grace -- Intro Part 2

Two Kinds of Places--Heaven and Hell

The Bible says that we are all sinners! Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”. That means that we all deserve to go to hell. Most people never talk about hell. They think you should never tell children about hell because it might upset them. But Jesus talked about hell a lot. The Bible gives us some descriptions of hell that are really scary:

It is in outer darkness. That means it will be so dark, you can’t even see your hand if you put it in front of your face. God is light, and when he removes the light, only darkness is left, and it will never ever be light again. No morning will ever come, and the sun will never rise again.

Matt. 8:11-12  I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,  while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Matt. 22:13-14  Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’  For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matt. 25:30  And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Hell is a place where Satan and demons and all the hordes of evil dwell. Hell is filled with monsters who are filled with hatred and violence. They will terrify all those who live in hell.

Rev. 20:10  and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Hell is a place of utter torment. That means that the people are in terrible pain and the pain never goes away, ever. Jesus says it will be like being thrown into a lake of fire. If you have ever been burned, you know how much that hurts.

Judgment Before the Great White Throne
Rev. 20:11-15  Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.  And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.  Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.  And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

If we go to hell, we will never ever see our loved ones again. There will be no human fellowship or love in hell—no parents or brothers or sisters or cousins or grandparents or friends. We might hear the screaming and terror of other people, but no one will care about us and no one will ever hold us again or try to comfort us. In hell, there will be no water for us when we get thirsty and no food for when we get hungry. There will be no medicine to take for pain. We will just suffer forever.

Rev. 21:8  But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Luke 16:22-26  The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side.[f] The rich man also died and was buried,  and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.  And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’  But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.  And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’

God says this is what all people deserve. Every one of us deserves to go to hell, because every one of us is sinner.

But not all sinners will go to hell. Some will go to heaven.

Heaven is going to be a place just like the earth we live on right now.

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.
“For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain.
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

We will have brand new bodies that will never get sick or die or feel pain. We will be with all of our loved ones who love Jesus.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44  So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.  It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

Rev. 21:1-4  Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.  And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place[a] of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

We will have feasts with the very best food ever.

A piece of heaven!
Waiting on the cookies!

Rev. 19:9  And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

The new earth will be like the Garden of Eden restored only much bigger. It will fill the whole earth and the glory of God will be in all of it.

So there will be heaven and hell—two kinds of places for two kinds of sinners.
